Publication of a book on adoption in the country
Under the authorship of Dr. Irene Salvo Agoglia and with the support of the National Service for Specialised Protection of Children and Adolescents and UNICEF Chile, a comprehensive and historical book on adoption in Chile has been published. The book, entitled Pasado, presente y futuro de la adopción en Chile: Hacia un enfoque centrado en los derechos de niños, niñas y adolescentes [Past, Present and Future of Adoption in Chile: Towards an Approach Focused on the Rights of Children and Adolescents], covers the transformation of adoption, past practices of forced adoption and trafficking, and the institutional and technical framework, with a focus on the adoptive triad. It is worth noting that the book is published at a crucial time for the country, with the potential approval of a new legal framework on adoption expected in 2025; it therefore also includes a part on the challenges and recommendations for the future of adoption in Chile.
For its part, CHIP congratulates the author and the partners of this publication, to whom it is also very grateful for the opportunity to having contributed to the development of the book. In view of the studies that have been undertaken by several receiving countries in recent years, CHIP also congratulates this initiative taken by an important country of origin at certain times in the history of intercountry adoption in the world, and which makes it possible to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that have developed from its perspective.
