Annual full-day meeting on the rights of the child: The rights of the child and the Sustainable Development Goals Annual Day on the Rights of the Child

Child Identity Protection (CHIP) welcomes the joint messages of panellists, including multiple children, at the annual full-day meeting at the Human Rights Council. During this Decade of Action, it is of utmost importance to accelerate the delivery and strengthen the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular CHIP encourages efforts to achieve SDG 16.9 where by 2030 States provide legal identity for all including free birth registrations. CHIP particularly supports the message of Benyam Dawit Mezmur, CRC Committee member, who called for greater State accountability in achieving the SDGs. CHIP stresses the connected need for States to speedily restore identities when there are missing elements (Art 8(2) CRC).
