Genetic identity day

Knowing origins is a right. 30 May has been set aside by donor conceived organisations to raise awareness about the necessity of “knowing their complete genetic identity, including medical history and ancestral identity.” Child Identity Protection (CHIP) would like to support these efforts by launching the testimonies of two donor conceived persons – Audrey and Arthur Kermalvezen – who persuasively explain why knowing genetic identity is so important. Audrey explains why she has brought her case before the European Court of Human Rights with the simple request of asking the donor if she could contact him. Arthur, explains the impact of meeting his donor, as the first donor conceived person in France to do so and why this led them to establish their association “Origines”. CHIP hopes that these testimonies, as well as its wider advocacy efforts such as its Briefing note on children’s rights and surrogacy with UNICEF will contribute to each and every child have a complete identity – legal, genetic, gestational and social – as envisioned in Article 8 Convention on the Rights of the Child.
