CHIP provides technical advice regarding proposed legislative reforms relevant to the child’s identity
Following a request by the Justice Committee’s House of Representatives in Belgium (la Commission de la Justice de la Chambre des représentants), Child Identity Protection (CHIP) had the privilege of providing its opinion on the compatibility of proposed legislative reforms related to the child’s identity with international standards(projet de loi portant dispositions diverses en matière civile et judiciaire, n° 3552/1 ). These reforms included those related to changes to the child’s name, conversions of “different child protection measures” into full adoptions and questions related to data protection. CHIP welcomes the direction of the reforms as obligations under Arts. 7-8 CRC are better respected. At the same time, CHIP notes that there are a number of opportunities for better alignment.
