HCCH has initiated technical support to the Central Adoption Authority of Uruguay
The Uruguayan child protection, care and adoption authority continues to undertake considerable efforts to ensure that its adoption practices are fully compliant with domestic legislation and international standards, including the 1993 Convention on the protection of children and cooperation in respect of intercountry adoption. In order to take this a step further, it has requested the technical support from the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH). In this framework, as from March 2023, Christina Baglietto, CHIP’s Regional Director, as well as Eda Aguilar Samanamud – one of CHIP’s Special Advisors and a well-known expert in this field – will be acting as independent consultants for the HCCH in this process of technical support to the Instituto del Niño y del Adolescente del Uruguay(INAU). Both will be offering inputs to strengthen and systematise the Uruguayan authority’s practice in responding to emerging issues and complex cases in line with international standards and to further develop the capacity of its multidisciplinary teams.
