Intercountry adoptee voices (ICAV) launches innovative video resources for professionals.

Intercountry adoptee voices (ICAV) interviewed seven individuals, adopted between 4 months to 4 years old. They are advising professionals on how to become more aware and understanding when working with adoptees. The adoptees share how they experience lifelong issues of grief and loss, which are integral to their identity. Therefore, adoptees need trauma-informed support and professionals that allow a safe space to process these losses. Certain stages in life can trigger original traumas for adoptees. Maintaining an awareness of signs of abuse and neglect is important – as it also happens within adoptive families. They advise professionals to become familiar with adoption and trauma-related resources, specifically those created by adoptees rather than solely academics. Child Identity Protection welcomes this much needed tool to help teachers, doctors and mental health professionals support adoptees in their work and to facilitate their overall well-being including preservation of their identity – helpfully subtitled in English, French and Spanish.
