International conference on family law including right to identity
The Law Faculty of the University of the Western Cape and Miller du Toit Cloete Incorporated with the International Academy of Family Lawyers hosted the 25th edition of its family law conference from 8 to 10 March in Cape Town where over 30 countries were represented. During the conference, the latest developments in family law were discussed with a focus on the African region with a number of distinguished Judges, Barristers and lawyers providing stimulating presentations. Significant attention was dedicated to children’s identity rights in abduction, adoption and assisted reproductive matters including surrogacy. Child Identity Protection (CHIP) was honoured to contribute to the discussion by emphasising the need to preserve the child’s right to identity in family proceedings, providing practical opportunities for legal practitioners in their daily casework.
