International Day for Street Children
As part of their Insight Series, Consortium for Street Children held a webinar on the importance of belonging on 11 April, where the right to identity was at the centre of discussions. Based on multiple Focus Group Discussions held with street-connected children, the theme of ‘belonging’ was identified as a key priority – both psychosocial and legal. Bokey Achola, Director, Glad’s House Kenya, spoke about how not belonging can have severe negative consequences for a street-connected child. Ishika representing Street Champions supported by CINI India, then explained their experience, highlighting how being able to speak with stakeholders has impacted their sense of belonging. Child Identity Protection (CHIP) was honoured to provide the final key message on the importance of legal identity as a vital first step in helping street-connected children feel like they belong.
