Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, prestigious and worthy appointment to Pontifical Commission for Protection of Minors
CHIP congratulates its President, Maud de Boer-Buquicchio – a formidable force of nature with multiple “top” hats – for her recent selection to be part of the Commission for Protection of Minors. Established in March 2014 this Commission seeks to receive input from survivors and provide the Pope and wider catholic church, proposals to improve safeguarding norms. The Commission’s objectives will include “education regarding the exploitation of children; discipline of offenders; civil and canonical duties and responsibilities; and the development of best practices as they have emerged in society at large.” Madame de Boer-Buquicchio’s extensive experience, including among other things, setting up the COE’s Lanzarote Committee and as UN SR on sale and sexual exploitation of children, will surely contribute to the better safeguards for children, including identity protection in terms of access to archives and appropriate reparations, when necessary.
