New resource on search and access to origins in adoption

The Secrétariat aux services internationaux à l’enfant (SASIE) of Quebec (Canada) recently published a new information document aimed at adoptees, titled The search for origins in intercountry adoption and in another Canadian province or territory. The purpose of this document is to inform adopted persons and their families, as well as birth parents, of the procedures to follow when undertaking a search for origins, in domestic and intercountry adoption. The drafting of this material was led by Dr Anne-Marie Piché (Professor at the École de travail social of Université du Québec à Montréal), who undertook consultations with a variety of parties and actors and carefully explains the services offered by the SASIE and the procedure at stake, including questions that could be raised along the process. CHIP welcomes the development and dissemination of this resource by the SASIE, as it contributes to the implementation of adoptees’ right to identity, in particular to the restoration of missing elements.
