Pacifica Congress Conference 2023 “Across the Pacific: Family Matters”

As part of the Pre-Conference Full-day Workshop on “Identity Issues Impacting Children and Young People” organised by Pacifica Congress, 31 August 2023, Hobart, Child Identity Protection (CHIP) was privileged to present on existing and emerging identity issues in family law. The Workshop was led by Professor Marilyn Freeman and Professor Nicola Taylor where different themes covered definition(s) of identity as well as significant life events that affect children’s identity and how the family justice system does, or should, respond. Experts CHIP in videos by Benoit Van Keirsbilck, CRC Committee Member, Judge Pangalangan on child soldiers, Michael Wells-Greco on surrogacy arrangements and  Arthur and Audrey Kermalvezen on identity and transparency about origins provided additional insights. CHIP welcomes the growing recognition of the importance of the child’s right to identity as a cross-cutting theme on many issues affecting children, especially their family relations.
