Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027) “Children’s Rights in Action: from continuous implementation to joint innovation”

The Council of Europe launched its Strategy for the Rights of the Child 2022-2027 in which it identified six strategic objectives to ensure the rights and best interests of the child, and three cross-cutting issues (gender-sensitive approach, anti-discrimination approach, child participation approach) to be integrated into all these areas to guarantee all children equal access to and full enjoyment of their rights. Equal opportunities for children imply in particular, according to the Council of Europe, the development of measures to protect children in migration, by strengthening mechanisms and co-operation to identify and refer these children in a timely manner. The Council of Europe has introduced a sixth priority area on the children’s rights in crisis or emergency situations. It notes that these situations exacerbate the inequalities that many children already face in their access to economic, social and cultural rights. In addition, children living in poverty are more likely to be separated from their parents or caregivers. The strategy also mentions its objective of contributing to the elimination of child, early and forced marriage. CHIP welcomes the fact that the strategy of the Council of Europe is addressing various situations that may lead to a violation of children’s identity rights with the aim of providing answers.
