The Private Side of Transforming our World – UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the Role of Private International Law

To date, the focus on achieving the SDGs has been on the role of public international law. The role of private international law in contributing to the SDGs has been absent, until the launch of this excellent publication in September 2021 by renowned scholars, including co-editor Hans van Loon. Child Identity Protection in particular draws attention to the Chapter by Professor Benyam Dawit Mezmur on SDG 1 on eliminating poverty and SDG 16, which dedicates significant attention on the child’s right to identity by Jinske Verhellen and Sabine Corneloup. In particular, these Chapters stress the importance of portability of identity across borders, specifically for children on the move. This publication will certainly encourage the global movement towards meeting the SDGs, particularly for children and their right to identity.
