Tools to support Reintegration and Integration, facilitating a child’s right to identity, Family for every child

Family for every child launched in December 2023 the ‘Supporting Integration’ toolkit documents (“Supporting Integration: A Toolkit for Practitioners Working with Children and Young People on the Move”), which shares good practice guidance for practitioners working with child migrants. The toolkit was developed as part of a three-year project which involved research into the integration of children moving from the Middle East to Europe, and aims to enhance integration support and services, ensuring that children and young people are provided with a care that fosters their development and well-being. There are also ‘top tips’ for practitioners which were provided by children on the move in Italy, Greece and Lebanon. The toolkit reminds us that “all children have a right to their identity (Article 8, UNCRC)” and refers to CHIP’s policy brief 2:  Child’s right to identity in alternative care (2022).

Family for every child published in January 2024 a kinship care guide (“How to support kinship care, lessons learnt from around the world”) which explains why supporting kinship care is so important and provides principles of good practice and lessons learnt from across the world. This guidance will be used to campaign for better support for and better access to kinship care across the world and includes over 40 examples of promising practice from across the world. It reminds us that “ Kinship care strengthens children’s right to identity and provides them with a sense of belonging”.

CHIP welcomes both publications which highlight the importance of all children’s right to identity and show how to concretely better respect this essential right.
